TEaM Expansion

Louisiana Tech University offers both Mentor Teacher and Content Leader training through all online graduate coursework.  The Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) has approved both pathways in June 2019.

We have enhanced the current state training with our TEaM Model mentor training curriculum as well as innovative technology tools from our HUB center.  Our program is completely online in ONE graduate 3-hour semester hour course. These hours can be applied to our Educational Leadership graduate program or be used as +30 hours. Faculty offer optional Zoom meetings to help you complete the tasks and are available face-to-face on campus.

NEW: Louisiana Tech is now providing the approved state training AND required portfolio assessment (formerly Bloomboard).

Cost

The estimated cost per teacher for one 3-semester hour graduate course would be approximately $1,400.
This includes:
1. Graduate Application
2. Tuition Cost
3. Portfolio Assessment
NOTE: Scholarships may be available. Please ask!

Q & A

What are the Mentor Teacher and Content Leader Endorsements?

These are certifications you can add to your teaching certificate and are important steps on the leadership path.  Below is a breakdown of endorsements available:
  • Elementary Mentor Teacher
  • Secondary ELA Mentor Teacher
  • Secondary Math Mentor Teacher
  • Universal Mentor Teacher
  • ELA Content Leader
  • Math Content Leader
  • Science Content Leader

How could I use the endorsements/certification?

A mentor teacher is a classroom teacher who supports aspiring clinical residents  and new teachers, as well as more experienced teachers needing additional support.  This endorsement is required by September 1, 2020, of all mentor teachers hosting clinical residents.  A content leader is a classroom teacher or district leader who specializes in a content area and supports that discipline on the school or district level.

What if my district is funding my training?
For individuals and small groups registering, save your registration tuition receipt for reimbursement purposes from your school/district. For larger groups from one district participating, contact Dr.  Amy Vessel.

When I pass the required portfolio assessment, how do I secure my endorsement?
Ask your school district to assist you in applying for your endorsement. You will need to attach three items to your application: (1) Certificate of Portfolio Completion, (2) Louisiana Tech Enrollment Letter, and (3) Louisiana Tech transcript verifying completion of coursework.  We will provide #1 and #2. You will have to request your official transcript from the university.
Serving as a mentor or content leader is an incredible opportunity to prepare leaders in education and bring prestige to our profession. We are honored at Louisiana Tech University to provide graduate coursework to prepare Louisiana's leaders for the future.
